What is iCool?
What is iCool?
iCool is a company created 20 years ago to answer to the needs of athletes in sports recovery. In 2004, the Australian team at the Olympic Games quietly introduced their secret weapon: six of the world’s first completely mobile, fully automatic ice bath systems.
These innovative machines, featuring fast chilling and accurate temperature control, were developed through a collaboration between leading sports medicine scientists at the Australian Institute of Sport and a small team of micro refrigeration experts at a new technology company called iCool Sport.
Since then, we’ve been manufacturing cooling and heating machines, inflatable baths & any size pools & spa baths in large numbers and improving our products every year with the latest technology. Our products have been used in the last 4 Olympic Games, the last 4 Commonwealth Games, the Asian Games, Tour de France and most of the world’s leading sporting events.

What is the recommended time to stay in an ice bath?
Most of the world’s leading experts recommend temperatures between 15 to 25 minutes.
What is the recommended water temperature?
What is the recommended water temperature?
Most of the world’s leading experts in ice bath recovery and contrast recovery therapy are now recommending slightly higher temperatures between 8 and 12 degrees but for up to 25 minutes.
You should not use lower temperatures until you have become well accustomed to no less than 8ºC and especially not without close supervision as lower temperatures can be dangerous and lead to hypothermia unless you have worked with experts to reach that stage safely.
Become familiar with your own limits and follow the advice of coaches, doctors and physiotherapists to get the biggest health benefits from your sessions.
Can I immerse my whole body in the ice bath?
Can I immerse my whole body in the ice bath?
To start out, you may want to first expose your feet and lower legs. As you get comfortable you can move toward your chest.
However we do not recommend immersing your head.
What is the science behind the ice baths?
What is the science behind the ice baths?
During a training session, your muscles burn fuel, leading to a build-up of toxic waste products and lactic acid. While your body naturally eliminates these waste products over a day or two, immersion in chilled water can expedite the process significantly.
The sudden cold triggers a reaction in the limbic area of your brain, which is designed to respond to dramatic external changes. It senses the cold as a potential threat and activates an automatic response to restore your core temperature. This involves redirecting blood from your skin and outer tissues to your core, allowing the blood to pass through the liver, kidneys, and other organs, which work to remove toxins and waste products.
As a result, this process quickly alleviates soreness and helps torn muscles rebuild faster with fresh, oxygenated blood flow, enabling you to recover more swiftly for your next athletic session. Essentially, the cold water tricks your body into an ancient survival mode, leading to the efficient flushing of waste products from your blood.
Additionally, one of the most commonly reported benefits of regular ice baths is improved sleep patterns and a calmer mental state, a phenomenon that has been extensively documented by athletes.

Learn the Basics
Identify your unit
Identify your unit
The name of your product is usually written on the front panel of your unit.
If you’re unsure of which model you have, all information about your product and serial number unit is available on the screen via Menu > Info.
Position your new ice bath
Position your new ice bath
Your pool and chiller must be placed on a uniformly flat and even surface.
The chiller should not be placed more than 30 meters from your pool. Be sure to place the pool and chiller on an area that can support he weight of the pool when full. It is always recommended to seek the advice of a qualified engineer or the local council if unsure.
Ensure that the chiller is placed in a well ventilated area and that it is kept away from heat sources of any description as well as of any close obstacle, wall or structure to allow proper airflow and a safe operating temperature.
Ice baths may be used outdoor with the requirements to protect the electronic parts from direct sun and rain. We recommend outdoor exposure to be for short periods of time only and that the ice bath and chillers/heaters are packed away undercover when not in use.
You must avoid long exposure to very corrosive environments such as very close to the ocean or extreme temperatures!
Connecting your chiller to your bath
Connecting your chiller to your bath
Depending on the ice bath set up you have chosen, connection between the chiller and the bath will vary.
If you have purchased an iCool chiller with an iCool bath, all fittings and hoses would have been provided with an instruction manual. Simply follow instructions as directed.
Please Contact an iCoolsport Technician for more information on custom set ups.
Filling & emptying your bath
Filling & emptying your bath
To fill you ice bath with water, simply place a hose over your bath and fill to the recommended water level.
Depending on your ice bath set up, emptying the water can be done by opening the bottom water outlet of your pool or by opening the ball valve connected to the bottom water outlet of your pool.
Connecting your machine to power
Connecting your machine to power
All chillers/heaters must be connected to the voltage marked on the machine. They are not multi-voltage and using a different voltage may cause severe damage.
Please avoid the use of long extension cords as they may result in voltage drops that may trigger the in-built safety system.
All AC power connections used must have an earth connection that complies with your local electrical safety regulations.
Connecting to a remote screen
Connecting to a remote screen
If operating your machine with a remote screen, a blue DATA cable and a mounting plate would have been provided in your order. Simply connect the blue DATA cable between your screen and your chiller.
For Compacts, you must connect the screen to a power outlet with a DC cable (provided). For MiPods this is not necessary.
To turn screen on, you must turn the machine on at the safety switch.
Start up sequence
Start up sequence
To start your machine, set temperature desired (from 5ºC to 45ºC for Compacts and Turbos or from 5ºC to 40ºC for MiPods) and press START.
That’s it! Your machine will do all the rest and there is noting else for you to do.
All our machines have been designed to always be on and ready to use.
Leave it on 24/7 and its automatic operation will stop and start when needed to maintain the desired temperature of your bath at all times.
WiFi set up
WiFi set up
Most of our ice baths can be operated from any smartphone, tablet or computer.
To do so, you must connect your machine and your device to the same WiFi network and open a web-browser on your device and type the IP Adress of your machine. This IP address can be found on the built-in screen of your machine under MENU > INFO.
Please note, WiFi operation is not available for machines purchased with the Remote Control Touch Screen Version.
Maintenance
Maintenance
It is recommended to clean your machines often to avoid rust and dust building up.
Water should be treated daily with your preferred sanitisation method. The use of chlorine, salt and mild chemical disinfectants is acceptable but do not use bromide as it is excessively corrosive.
If using a water filter, we recommend cleaning it weekly and replacing the internal cartridge every 6 months.
Troubleshooting
Water Flow Issues
Water Flow Issues
To protect the pump and the titanium heat exchanger tanks, iCool systems will not allow operation unless the water flows correctly.
If water does not flow smoothly or if there is air trapped in the system for more than 2 minutes, the safety system will first attempt to fix it automatically by causing the pump to surge a few times.
If it fails, it will direct a shut down for safety. The most common issue that can prevent successful operation is lack of water flow. It can occur if air is trapped in the water pipes or in the pump, or if flow is restricted in the hoses by some sort of blockage (band-aid or bits of clothing).
- Make sure water level is above the top water outlet
- Disconnect all hoses, one by one, and reconnect again
- Disconnect the fittings from the pool and from the chiller and reconnect
- Disconnect fittings from water pump and reconnect
- If you have a water valve in your pool, make sure it’s in the open position
Screen/Software Issue
Screen/Software Issue
This is a very rare issue.
If your screen will not connect or is damaged you can still operate your icebath.
Most of our products have an override button. If you press that button for at least ten seconds the machine will start and operate normally at the last temperature you set. This is perfectly safe to use until the screen is corrected. If the screen freezes while the iCool is running, it should still carry on operating normally and will continue monitoring the safety features but you will not be able to change any settings and the displayed temperatures readout on the screen may not update.
You can either allow it to keep running if that is more convenient and call or email us and we can advise how to reset your machine. If your screen is remote and connected by an ethernet cable it is almost always the cable that that is not properly connected that causes it not to communicate.
Please check the plugs at both ends.
Chiller Not Cooling
Chiller Not Cooling
Your iCool has several safety systems including one that prevents the gas pressure reaching a dangerous high level.
This can only happen if the machine is extremely overheated, in which case the safety valve will vent some of the refrigeration gas to maintain a safe situation.
This can happen if the machine has been operated in very hot conditions, in a confined space or if the airflow has been blocked or partly blocked for a certain amount of time, or if it’s placed too close to a wall, or a towel or clothing is blocking the air flow.
To get your machine back up and running it will need the refrigeration gas topped up to normal level to provide full cooling effect. This can be done by your local refrigeration company or at iCoolsport headquarters.
Wrong Voltage Used
Wrong Voltage Used
iCools can only be connected to the voltage marked on the machine.
They are manufactured as either 110V or 220V machines, but they are not multi-voltage.
Using a different voltage may cause severe damage, that is not covered under normal warranty.
Operation in Extreme Cold Weather
Operation in Extreme Cold Weather
Never allow the water inside your pool or machine to freeze solid or serious damage could occur If extreme cold conditions are expected, add salt or anti-freeze to lower the temperature at which the water freezes; or turn on heat mode (if available).
If not being used, drain water from the unit and the pool and store indoors, at ambient temperature.
Remember, when water turns to ice it expands powerfully and can burst pipes.
Operation in Extreme Hot Weather
Operation in Extreme Hot Weather
On very hot climates over 45ºC, it may not be possible to run the system at full power due to the excessive heat.
If the temperature inside the unit exceeds 60ºC, the over heat safety circuit will operate and shut the machine down. An over temperature alarm will appear on the screen as a warning.
You will need to wait for the machine to cool down before operating it again.
